Functions
The Division’s main functions are to -
  1. reprint laws;
  2. exercise revision of laws;
  3. extend Federal laws to Sabah and Sarawak and the Federal Territories;
  4. translate English texts of pre-1967 laws to the national language;
  5. review archaic and obsolete laws; and
  6. modernize laws to be in tandem with the changing needs of society.

  • Reprint and update all laws of Malaysia and subsidiary legislations pursuant to section 14 of the Revision of Laws Act 1968 [Act 1 ].

  • Prepare orders for extension and modification of laws applicable in Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak pursuant to section 74 of the Malaysia Act 1963, and to the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya pursuant to the Constitution (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1973 [Act A206], Constitution (Amendment) Act 1984 [Act A585] and Constitution (Amendment) Act 2001 [Act A1095] respectively.
  • Translate English language text of laws into the national language pursuant to the National Language Acts 1963/67 [Act32].

  • Remove anomalies in the laws.
  • Arrange the codification and unification of laws in order to eliminate multiplicity of laws.
  • Consider proposals for harmonizing Malaysian laws with international laws.
